Keep up to date with all the news at Eggplant & Poppy, including boring stuff like what we ate for lunch & our professional thoughts on such things as anxiety, corona virus, The Kardashians & earrings!
Ahhh We see it every year; the husband, the partner, the siblings racing into the shop at the 11th hour to grab “just anything Mum would like” because it’s been left until the last minute. When did that second Sunday of May whip around so fast?? Hmmm Sound familiar?
It’s not that hard - us mums are not complicated creatures. We know how busy life can get and we do not expect the crown jewels as a token of your appreciation just because we carried you around in our belly for 9 months (but please note, this was a slight inconvenience)
Well hello 2021.
No, like we’ve said before, you don’t have to be perfect – but for the love of Oprah, please just be normal!
2020 for us, like everyone, was crazy. Crazy in good & bad ways – but let’s just focus on the good yeah?
With our doors being made to shut for 6 weeks we didn’t know what would come of Eggplant & Poppy – I went home that night after closing the door & just cried…..would we reopen? Would our little business survive? What was happening with the world :)
Gratitude is something that should be spread around all the time.
And I’m a big believer in what you put out into the world, you get back into your life.
Our shop is something that was created on a dream, mutual determination & most important friendship. 👯♀️
And in the 5 years it’s been open has brought so much more of that into our lives... ♥️
Well we are well & truly into September now & let’s face it, it’s probably the most exciting thing to have happened since Uber eats announced free desserts for people living in Victoria.
Whilst we don’t get those lovely noticeable season changes up here in FNQ, we do know when spring is here... because we have to put the ceiling fans back on 🤪
Being busy needs to stop being glorified. I need my days at home where I literally do not speak to anyone. I need at least 2 days like that. Where I do not leave the house. I stay in my pjs, take long baths, read, sleep, meditate & just recharge.
Since I’ve stopped fighting this, my recovery rate of bouts of depression & anxiety are shortened because I still allow myself to sit in those dark places & tell myself that it's ok. I will come out when I’m ready.
When you smell Apple Pie what do you think of? Or when the scent of Rain wafts through the air, how does it make you feel?
Is there anyone in the world who doesn’t melt at the scent of a new born baby or swoon at the smell of pages in a brand new book?
Eggplant & Poppy have been stocking Demeter Fragrances for well over 2 years now & it is a brand that makes us smile.
You know when you finish a really good book & then feel like you don’t know what to do with your life now its over?
What week are we in now? 4? 5?
This COVID-19 lock down sure has gone fast – and I haven’t even got to cleaning out the linen cupboard – BUT! I have defrosted the freezer & watched 52,859 episodes of crap tv on Netflix :)
What a time to be alive hey?
Adapting to homeschooling our babes, and living in an online world. And oh holy Oprah are we grateful for the world wide web & technology right now. It’s helping us stay in contact with friends & loved ones (I miss my mum so much & am not sure when I’ll get to see her again, but I am so grateful for Facetime!) and it helps having afternoon drinks with your best friend while you cook dinner.
