Hi there! My name is Nathalie, but most people call me Nat.
What is your nickname?
My childhood nickname has always been Nati, which people often mistake for 'Maddy' when said aloud. I consider it my go-to name when ordering coffee. Nowadays people call me Nat, seeing as the spelling of my first name often trips people up (it's pronounced like Natalie FYI) - thanks Mum and Dad!!!
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Sorento, Perth, but my parents came to Cairns when I was just a year old. I grew up in Lake Placid, in a small home with a huge backyard, where my dad built the best cubby house ever with a flying fox from one side of the yard to the other. As a young adult, I have moved to a few different places across the East side of Australia, but recently came back to my home town. It feels nice to be home.
What are three adjectives which describe you?
I would say the three best words to describe me would be talkative, nerdy, and sassy. As Emma and Kirsty have found out over the past few weeks, I just LOVE to chat. I am 100% a people person, and love to make new friends. Between Emma & myself, we could probably talk someone to death! Nerdy because I am a big video gamer, and a big Star Wars & Anime fan. And lastly, I am quite a sassy lady. I don't take crap from anyone and like to speak my mind. My Mum often reminds me that even shortly after being born, the first noises I made were grunts as if to say 'how dare you bring me into the world'?!
What is your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
I enjoy quiet hobbies that don't involve a lot of noise or social interaction. At the end of the day, I am often talked out and want to enjoy a nice dinner or snack. Therefore, my favourite thing to do in my spare time is to cook or bake. I experiment with a lot of vegan recipes, substituting certain ingredients with plant based alternatives, and so far they have turned out great!
What is your favourite food?
My favourite food would definitely have to be my Mum's pork roast dinner. Most people would say that the crackling is the best part of the dish - and don't get me wrong, it is pretty damn good - but my Mum's old style roast vegetables are the bomb! After cooking them partially in boiling water, she lets them dry and then fries them in hot oil which makes them super crispy on the outside but beautifully soft on the inside. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
Do you have any pets?
Yes. I have one beautiful fur baby, Amelia (or as my boyfriend likes to call her, "Meep Morp"). She will be 13 in December, and she is my best friend. I've had her since she was just six weeks old, and she is honestly the light of my life. Every day when I come home she hears my car pulling up and greets me like a dog, meowing at me for me to pick her up and give her a cuddle. I don't have any tattoos, but I know my first tattoo will be of her.
What is your favourite book?
To be honest with you, I haven't read a lot of books. I am definitely more of a movie person. But my favourite is definitely The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I didn't think I could like the book more than the movie, but I was proven wrong. I feel like my being is that of Aibileen and Minnie put into one person - caring and loving like Aibileen, but ready to serve you a 'chocolate' pie if you mess with me!
At which store would you like to max-out a credit card?
My first reaction when reading this question was 'I wouldn't max out a card, because I am too careful with my money'. But if I had to choose, I would say either a kitchen shop, or Zing.
Favourite song/band/playlist of all time?
I have always been a really big Coldplay fan, ever since I was young. I used to put the So Fresh DVD into my Mum's TV and sing along to the Coldplay songs, try to decipher the lyrics, and then get my friends to sing it with me, according to my (horribly wrong) lyrics. I have found that they have a song for every mood. Feeling sad? Listen to Sparks. Feeling philosophical? Listen to 42. Feeling like you can take on the world and do anything? Listen to A Sky Full Of Stars.
Can you play any instruments? What can you play?
Yes I can! I can play guitar and piano. I have a big electric piano in my lounge room. I have been playing piano since I was 8, and guitar since I was 14. Am I any good at either of them?...... No.
What makes you laugh?
Videos of animals doing silly things on YouTube, Who's Line Is It Anyway, and of course, too much alcohol will make me laugh at almost anything.
If you could each lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Probably Robin Williams. I think the entire world was shocked at his sudden passing, and it really sent a message out about how important mental health is. He was a spectacular, one of a kind man, and it would be great to tell him just how much he meant to everyone.
What, if anything, have you ever re-gifted?
A couple of years back, my younger brother bought me a selfie stick for Christmas... let's just say he recorded me opening the present because he knew my reaction would be bad!
What’s the strangest talent you have?
I remember numbers really well. My brain is like an elephant for numbers. That and addresses. Maybe it's not a strange talent, but when you consider that it takes me a million years to remember someone's name, it's pretty strange.
Do you have any strange phobias?
I really don't like swimming where I can't see the bottom of where I'm swimming. I sometimes refuse to swim in a lake or the ocean where it seems creepy. What if something grabs my leg?! Maybe I've watched one too many horror movies...
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
Definitely superhuman strength. Then I could open up any jar!! I'd be UNSTOPPABLE!!
What three items would you take if you knew you were going to be stranded on a tropical island for a year?
A huge bag of coffee, my iPod, and a solar recharger for said iPod.
Be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play?
I would be Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy. She is totally bad ass, and her hair is awesome (anyone who comes into the store will notice that my hair also has pink on the ends).
What are you most excited about working at Eggplant & Poppy?
I'm really excited to work for Eggplant & Poppy because I know that the girls there are just lovely human beings, are really genuine, and love to have a good time. It's an amazing work environment, where I get to have fun while selling products that I love and believe in, and everyone just has a really great time while they're there. I'm keen to meet all of the regular customers, to get to know them, and build long lasting relationships with them so that when they walk in, it's like greeting an old friend. I can't wait to meet you all!
We are so thrilled to have Nat join us in the shop. Please come in & say hello & make her feel welcome :)
